Well, another week has gone by since China and it just gets better and better. Not to say it is easy, but definitely better!
First, the downs of the week; Lizzie has her first cold and with it came an ear infection. Three days of an antibiotic and she seems much better. The lowest low of the week was taking her to a pediatric lab to get blood drawn for the typical international adoption blood work up. After ten minutes of holding her down while two technicians poked and poked and poked TRYING in vain to find a vein, we gave up and left. So she has bruises on her right and left arms and left hand. They tried on her wrist, but it didn't work either. It was absolutely awful. I felt so sorry for her. She was so MAD. I have yet to hear that cry from her. She was flat- out furious. Apparently, she has very tiny veins and this is fairly common. Anyone else have this trouble? We are being sent to Stanford's Pediatric Lab where experts will be able to find her veins. I am not even thinking about it until her bruises heal. Poor pumpkin.
Now for the ups; the boys continue to shower her with love and affection and it is amazing how much she adores them. Cooper used 100 Superbucks(for those of you not in the know, this is equivalent to $10,000,000.00) to buy Lizzie a stuffed toy at the Superbuck store. The Superbuck store is only open once a month at Cooper's school so this is an incredible amount of self control and generosity for Cooper.
Nate tells us continually how much her loves Lizzie. Tonight he came in and watched me give her a bottle. And then he created the perfect adjective for her. He said, "Mom, she is just so 'Lizzable'".
We all have had a cold this week, but are pushing through. Lizzie slept through the night last night for the first time and prior to that she has been waking less and less often. We are getting there. She is such a delightful little girl.

Oh, the blood draw was horrible, so sorry you have to go back. I was pretty determined to get it the first time, but it took 30 minutes of screaming. Poor thing, an ear infection! I am so glad her brothers love her! sometimes we are still working on this!

Lizzable?! That is just adorable!!! Give all 3 kiddos a hug for me. So sorry to hear you all got colds, that's a bummer. Hope you're feeling better soon.
We couldn't get blood from Gwen either. So we just repeated all of her shots. In the long run, we thought it was less traumatic and some of the kids from her SWI had blood test results that showed that the vaccinations were not effective (or not given).
It's heartbreaking to watch your child endure something that feels like torture to her since she can't possibly understand why any of it is necessary. Poor little sweeties. So sad!
I'm glad everyone is settling in nicely though! Even through the sniffles and colds and scary Dr visits!
