We spent the weekend "camping" in my in-laws cabin. It is getting close to being finished and it was a lot of fun for us to see it at this stage. By the end of the summer it should be fully functioning. We had a wonderful time exploring the new house, the surrounding woods and of course playing at the lake with family. It was an awesome weekend. The boys got to try water skiing for the first time. Cooper enjoyed kayaking and Lizzie and Nate spent a great day playing along the shore in the sandy mud. We came home very dirty and slept very well.

Cooper turned nine on Tuesday and I have to say I am having a difficult time with this birthday. All my childrens' birthdays make me feel equal parts happy and sad, but this one is making me more sad than usual. Nine means his childhood is half over. In another nine years I will be attending his high school graduation instead of picking him up from elementary school and taking him to McDonalds (the kids' choice!) He is such a big kid now. Really, no more little boy there.
I am so proud of him. He is such a sweet, kind, conscientious boy. He really tries hard. Not that he doesn't drive me absolutely insane sometimes too. But for all the times that he does, it doesn't come close to all the good. So here's a little about Coop at nine. He LOVES to read voraciously. He is treading into skateboarding and is working hard on a swim team too. His first meet was Wednesday night and much to my and his surprise he was bumped up to the nine year group without warning. So after practicing with the 8 year olds and gearing up for 25 meter races, he suddenly was on the blocks with nine and ten years olds(a couple of boys very close to eleven) and told to swim 50 meters and do a flip turn as well. The 8 year old team isn't required to do a flip turn and so Cooper hadn't even seen one, let alone practiced it. I talked to the head of the swim team about how he was being asked to do this without any preparation. They apologized, but rules were rules and since Coop turned nine the day before he had to swim the next level up. They said they "missed" him in all the paperwork and usually "age kids up" at the beginning so they are prepared at meets. Keep in mind that I specifically asked about this at the beginning of the season and was told they would "probably age him up later in the summer season". So I was internally having a fit, but kept it positive because I didn't want Cooper to think he was in a bad spot. Cooper was a star. He never complained, never whined, just got up on those blocks and went for it. And you know what? He did pretty well. He held his own as best as he could. He didn't even come in last on the back stroke. Jeff and I cheered him on, we were impressed with his swimming ability, but much more impressed by his great attitude.

Last Day of School
Dusting off the laptop and updating the blog. Computer is still down and out, but that is not stopping me. Time to get back to my cyber-addiction.
We ended the school year with a lot of fun activities. Field Day, Bubble Day, Game Board Day, picnics, parties, pot lucks, swim practice, last baseball game for Nate, a play (High School Musical at the San Jose Performing Arts Center), End of Season Baseball party and Kindergarten Graduation all happened in the last week or so of school. It was a crazy, busy, but fun time.
Now I sit at the laptop that I forced Jeff to leave at home and reflect on the fact that Nate is on his way to first grade and Cooper to fourth grade. It goes by so fast! The saying, "The Day is Long, but the Year is Short" seems so fitting to me. With Jeff working full time and in school full time there were days this year that I honestly never thought I would make it to summer. So much driving, planning, go, go, go. Trying to be three places at once and all things for all three of my kids...I couldn't wait for summer..and now it's here and I find myself melancholy about how quickly it all goes. The boys look so grown up to me and Lizzie is just getting so big!
We're looking forward to celebrating Cooper's birthday (today!), supporting Cooper's swim team efforts, relaxing, camping, playing with friends and enjoying our total LACK of a schedule! Enjoy the pictures, don't forget to click on any of the pictures to scan through the photostream.

Practicing to be a First Grader
Nate and the rest of the kindergartners got to eat lunch in the cafeteria on June 10. He felt really important to be able to buy his lunch and eat at the "big" tables like the "big" kids. He was also thrilled to find that chocolate milk was a choice and no adult was going to tell him "no" when he picked it!
Sunday Morning Snuggle
Jeff enjoying some rare snuggling with his girl. He has been so busy with school and work. He is gone every morning to work and every other Saturday morning to class by the time Lizzie gets up. Tuesday and Thursdays all the kids are asleep by the time he comes in(and 90% of the time his wife too! ) So he really enjoys Lizzie's Sunday cuddles all the more.
Crashed Out at Preschool
Twice during the months that Lizzie started her new school I came to pick her up from preschool and found her like this. Her preschool is an afternoon class and sometimes Circle Time was just a little too relaxing for her. Her sweet teachers would just gently settle her in the Reading Corner and let her sleep. After the first time, I started carrying my camera in my purse so I would be prepared to catch a picture.

Suffering from Severe Technical Difficulties
Our computer has been on the fritz for over two weeks now. Sorry for the lack of posts. I am going to try to upload some pictures to the laptop this weekend and update the blog. It is quite amazing how much more I am getting accomplished around my house now that I am mostly offline. Hopefully my computer will be back up soon and I can go back to being hooked to cyberspace and unproductive. :)

And the Second....
Last night when Jeff asked what I would like for Mother's Day I said I really wanted a chance to sleep in, have breakfast in bed and read the paper in peace and quiet. My good husband made sure that happened. I spent twenty blissful minutes eating this yummy breakfast and reading the paper. It was a slice of heaven, but then I was bored all by myself and got up to find my crew!
Happy Mother's Day Everyone!! Hope you have a wonderful day celebrating your mom, your memories, your self or your kids. However you spend the day, I hope its a happy one.

Friday Night Baseball Fun
Last night we kicked off our weekend with a San Jose Giants game with some great friends. The evening ended with a beautiful fireworks show that the kids loved. I hardly watched the show as I spent almost the whole time watching the kids faces. Lizzie had a huge grin on her face the whole show and it was just so darn cute. The boys were awed. Nate told us on the way home when he grows up he is going to be a "firework shooter offer". We told him that sounded great as long as he went to Fireworks College. It was a great night full of friends, sunflower seeds and ice cream. Lots of fun.

Nate's New Look
After four years of the most adorable bowl cut of all time Nate decided he wanted "spiky" hair. Both Jeff and I sadly agreed. We always said we wouldn't fight "hair" battles. We plan to stand firmly opposed to tattoos and piercings, but we have always felt hair grows back so if our children wanted to try a different style we weren't going to fight it. We just didn't think we would be dealing with this issue so early. The kids hair stylist made Nate show her three different pictures of what he wanted just to make sure he knew what he was asking for and he definitely did. So as I watched the long, blond locks fall to the floor I tried to smile bravely. Via cell phone Jeff suggested I grab a lock of Nate's long hair as it might never be that length again. Now Nate is the proud owner of a stylish new do' and I have a baggie full of hair for the keepsake box.
Art Vista Show 2008
Wednesday Night was our elementary school's annual Art Show and Book Fair. We also had a T-Ball game that night as well as swimming practice. My parents graciously ferried Cooper to and from swimming practice and to the art show while Jeff, Lizzie and I wolfed down dinner sandwiches watching Nate's game and met up with Coop and the grandparents at the school. It was a busy night. By the end of the night the kids were tucked into bed with their new books and Jeff and I were asleep by 9:00 pm!
