It's a smile!

It's a smile!

So today was better. She is getting more comfortable with us and will even play a bit. Putting her down to sleep is the hardest part. She puts up a good fight and we think she misses her routine the most at this point. The highlight of the day was during dinner. A waitress picked Lizzie up out of her highchair and started walking around the restaurant playing with her. While this is not a uncommon practice in their culture - it made the two of us very nervous. Lizzie has been auditioning with anyone Chinese to take her away by smiling and cooing if they get close enough. So we assumed we would be back to square one tonight on the bonding issue after this episode. But out of the blue she actually was looking around the room for Rhonda. We are not sure she wanted to come back, but it made us feel good that she was checking to see if we were around. We had a follow up doctor's appointment today and she checked out with flying colors. We told the doctor we think she is teething and tends to get very hot and sweaty when she is upset. The doctor told us not to worry about the teething and to give her some Tyenol. As for the sweating - we were again told that "overweight people tend to sweat more."
This is Rhonda. Lizzie is starting to show signs of trust. She actually sat with a leg on Jeff's lap on the bus today. She also made eye contact wih him a lot today. She follows his every move around he hotel room. Definitely wants to know what he is up to. But she doesn't want him to hold her. She played a game on the bus and at the dinner table where she would pat his hand when he held it out to her. She also lets him feed her all her snacks and meals. She won't sit in his lap, but is perfectly willing to take anything he spoons out to her from my lap. This morning she let him hold her bottle while she rested on my hip. So we are hoping that he will get in her good graces with food. There are three other dads besides Jeff in our group that have "restraining orders" as far as the babies are concerned. If they get too close it is a melt down.
Lizzie is sleeping through the night, taking her bottles, having wet and dirty diapers, eating lots of different foods, and even starting to play some. She is doing wonderful! We are so thankful. If this is what she is like during a very stressful period, when she is comfortable she is going to be a very pleasant baby.
Cooper and Nate we loved hearing your voices today! I am glad you had a good time playing at Joe and Hailey's house. We know you love to go to the Flatts. Cooper, have a great time at your Young Author's Fair today. We can't wait to see your book. And Nate, have a great day at school. I know you will have fun with all your friends. Give Sophie a big hug for us. We love you so much! You are going to have fun with your sister.
Thank you to everyone leaving comments on the blog. I figured out how to change the settings so the comments are now sent to our email. We still can't view the blog, but now at least we are getting your comments. It just means the world to us to read the kind words and support. Thank you!

Lizzie is gorgeous!

As for the sweating, my son is a HUGE sweat-er. He's a big boy and as he has grown (he's just two), he's been sweating a little less, but still more than my oldest, who doesn't sweat at all!

Rhonda & Jeff --
So fun to follow along -- Lizzie is downright adorable, and you are so right about her handling a very stressful situation with absolute grace. She is really a trooper. We CAN'T WAIT to meet her and introduce her to our Hubei girl.
