Last Saturday was the official Closing Ceremonies for Lizzie's softball league. Each team comes out and lines up around Field #1 in order from oldest to youngest. They start by first honoring all the All Stars chosen for each age group and the League Champions for each age group. Lizzie's age group doesn't have All Stars or League Champions. Then the President of the Board begins naming each and every girl on each and every team, oldest to youngest. They specifically start with the oldest because in the past the parents of the little ones typically grab their kid and bail out since it's hot and such a long time for 6-7 year old girls to wait. The League has learned that if given their trophies first, by the time the President starts calling the names of the 14 year old girls, there are only a handful of 6-7 year old players still there. And 6-7 year old teams make up the majority of the league.
It was almost an hour of standing in the sun for Lizzie and her teammates before they got their hands on their little trophies.
Finally it was time for the Diamond Divas!!
Up they go...
And back again quick as can be...about 60 seconds of fame...
The coach of each team also chooses one player to receive the coveted "Most Improved" medal.
Guess which Diamond Diva received the medal?
Since Lizzie started playing softball not knowing how to put on her mitt, or stand at the diamond, hit a ball or catch one either and has become one of the more solid little members of her team her coach awarded her the honor.
Lizzie was so proud.
So were we.
We were also really hot, thirsty and tired so we snapped this shot and headed for the car as fast as we could.
Well done, Lizzie.
