Well, our soccer season is just about over. Cooper's team is continuing with a few practices and a December tournament. Nate and Lizzie's teams finished up the season this past weekend with the annual Jamboree Tournament(4 games each) our league hosts each year.
Just a few soccer tidbits:
In ten weeks, our family has had 37 games.
Cooper took his first job this year as a league referee.
He refereed 14 games in ten weeks.
Since Cooper is 12 he obviously doesn't drive.
So that makes 49 games that Jeff or I drove to and/or attended.
Almost every weekend, games overlapped and Jeff and I had to split up.
There were a few times when we had to call upon friends or my parents to get a child to a game until we could get there.
One weekend none of the games overlapped and we could sit through all three from beginning to end.
Lizzie's team, The Purple Tigers, went undefeated all season, and then took 1st place in the tournament this weekend. They are fierce little tigers.
Nate's team, The Cobras, had two ties, three losses, and five wins.
The also took 1st place in the tournament this weekend.
The Cobras finished their last game this weekend with double over time and then a shoot out. For those not up on soccer lingo that means the coach picks five players to go one and one with the goalie and try to score. Whoever has more goals at the end of the shoot out wins.
We had four to their three and won. It's a hard way to win. Especially for the poor little 9 year old goalies. Thankfully, Nate wasn't the goalie or one of the shooters. But it was still a nail biter.
We loved all three coaches this year; Cooper's coach has coached this team seven seasons running. Lizzie's coach has coached her team for two seasons and Nate was on new team. The kids all had a wonderful season.
I can't say I will miss all the practices/carpool/running around like a chicken with my head cut off during the week and all the running around on the weekends. But Jeff and I truly enjoy watching and cheering for these games.

*Cooper's team United doesn't wear league approved socks. Four seasons ago, an assistant coach's wife was battling breast cancer. In honor of her our Head Coach Walter had all the boys wear pink socks.
She battled breast cancer and won. Sadly, her husband, died of heart failure last year. She and her daughter still attend our games and support the team. We've worn pink socks for the last four years and I don't see it changing anytime soon. The league told our coach this year they wanted our team to wear league approved red socks, no more pink. Walter told them "Fine, but I'll be instructing all the families to wash them in bleach, so we'll end up wearing pink anyway. Might as well let us buy them." Obviously, Jeff and I love Walter. So does every boy on Cooper's team.*
