We survived our first Holiday Pageant at church yesterday. The kids have been rehearsing for three weeks and I have to say delivered their lines very well. Don't I sound like a stage mom?
Cooper was Elf 1B, there were so many lines for Elf 1 that the part was divided into A and B, Lizzie was an Angel (HA!), and Nate had the part of Child #6. The gist of the play is that children have lost the true meaning of Christmas and Santa uses magic to bring them to the North Pole to remind them what the real meaning of Christmas is all about. Cooper was an excellent elf and in my personal opinion Elf 1B was far superior to Elf 1A. Nate had three lines that were reduced to one as an over zealous little girl, probably a bit nervous , accidently said his lines before he could get them out. Stage hog that she was. But his last line was a killer and he nailed it! Lizzie was a darling angel throughout the whole twenty minute performance up until the very end. The last scene of the play, "Children 1-6" wake up and it's Christmas morning and they rush to Santa to see what he has given them. The angels are all done at this point and supposed to stay seated in the front row of the church. Lizzie, however, wasn't taking any chances and bolted for the stage to make sure she wasn't missing any gifts. By then, her halo was off and her little wings were definitely crooked as she pushed her way through the kids to see what was in Santa's bag. The child playing the angel Gabriel had to whisper and gesture frantically from behind the pulpit to get Lizzie back off the stage. Heh.
As my dad dryly pointed out, "I don't think there is any danger of her being typecast as an angel."
All in all, Jeff and I agreed, they all did a great job. And then it was off to the donut shop for us.

Adorable!!! An angel with no spice would be downright dull...LIzzie was just adding a bit of complexity to her character, keeping her angel relatable..That Angel Gabriel sounds a little uptight if you ask me.
